Tip: Redundant Expressions

This small number of redundant expressions is very commonly heard in Malaysian English. It would be preferable to avoid them.

Malaysian English
The house is blue in colour.
She is large in size.
My uncle is big-sized.

Standard English
The house is blue.
She is large.
My uncle is big.

Rewrite these sentences using Standard English.

1. Your solicitor needs to chop that application form to make it valid.

2. Did you close the windows and lights,Siti?

3. I followed my sister to Johor Bahru last month.

4. I'll send you to work if your car is still at the workshop.
